US Developmental Squad Falls to Canada

8.28.07 – Blaine, MN – The US Developmental squad lost a physical match against Canada’s senior women’s team yesterday in the first of their two-match CanAm series. The final score was 5-18 with the US falling behind early but rebounding to put points on the board late in the first second half. The U.S. missed two chances at penalty goals in the first half to to make the halftime score 5-0. US Coach Kathy Flores was pleased with the way her team responded to the early points that Canada put on the board. Flores said she “wasn’t surprised at the final score given the 13-15 returning World Cup players that Canada put on the field versus our younger squad (featuring 4-5 returning World Cup players). She gave Canada credit for the win, “Canada played a tough, physical match. They played well and deserve all the credit for the win.”

Unfortunately for the US, breakdowns in the defensive line allowed the early lead which they couldn’t overcome. Flores said she was “pleased her team’s mental discipline. For a young team, it took a lot to stay focused in this match. For tomorrow’s match, we will build on our experiences, and we have an idea of what we need to do. We look forward to a challenging match. “

  1. Wendy,

If you get a chance, can you post a list of the selections and subs? Seems no one else is going to. Thanks!
