Detroit Rugby on Mt. Kilimanjaro!

from Detroit Rugby:

Earlier in March 2013, two members of the Detroit Women’s Rugby Football Club, Keely Hamilton (left) and Jessica Crump (right), took a trip to Tanzania to trek Mt. Kilimanjaro.  Thanks to everyone who donated money for the DRFC Flag!  We are proud of Keely and Jess and glad to have such dedicated members representing Detroit RFC – congratulations on this amazing accomplishment!

See Keely’s original message below:

As some of you already know, I am leaving next week for Tanzania to trek Mt. Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest point and the world’s highest free-standing mountain. Jess Crump, and former player for the women, and I are headed up together and intend to reach Uhuru Peak. While it’s not a technical climb, Uhuru Peak is 19,345 feet above sea level, so the weather and altitude make it a challenge!

The sign at the top, where everyone takes pictures, has stickers and prayer flags from those who have reached the peak and want to promote their cause. Since Detroit Rugby is my favorite cause, I’d be proud to hang our club flag up there for as long as it can stand the wind and weather! The green sign is a new one that needs the DRFC logo strapped around a plank!

Please don’t worry about me not making it up – Jess is much younger and super fit! We’ve already agreed that if one of us has altitude issues, the other continues up! We both have a personal goal to make it up there, but we also both love the Detroit RFC and want to share our challenge with the club!
