Berkeley All Blues Women’s Rugby Team Looking for Head and Assistant Coaches

The Berkeley All Blues Women’s Rugby Club is currently seeking both Head and Assistant Fall Coaches beginning mid-August through Women’s Premier League Nationals mid-November 2013. The ideal candidates are both able and committed to maintaining the club’s history of excellence and building a championship-level team.

The Team

Founded in 1978, the Berkeley All Blues are one of the country’s top women’s rugby teams. The Club has won a combined total of 15 National Championships in both 15’s and 7’s rugby and is currently ranked first in the United States following the conclusion of the Fall 2012 Women’s Premier League season. The All Blues consist of approximately 30 women, dedicated to the club and the sport of rugby. The Club welcomes athletes of all levels and current players range from elite to novice in experience. Several players regularly compete on the Women’s National Team and territorial select sides. The emphasis of fall season is to compete at the highest level in the Women’s Premier League, composed of the top eight teams in the country, with the aim to secure a third consecutive National Championship.

Head Coach Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluation of all members of the Team and determination of rosters for both a competitive Women’s Premiership League team (“WPL Side”) and a developmental team (“B Side”).
  • Development and refinement of game strategies for all league and non-league matches for both WPL Side and B Side teams.
  • Organization and running of all official practices for both WPL Side and B Side teams.
  • Attending all home and away matches for WPL and B side, and Nationals ( November 8-10; Location TBD)
  • Coordination with Team executive board to determine procedure for captain selections for both WPL Side and B Side teams.
  • Providing effective feedback to individuals and the team
  • Assistance with selection and mentorship of assistant coaching staff
  • Serving as lead Coach for B side games as needed
  • Assistance with upholding of club policies set by the club’s executive board

Assistant Coach Key Responsibilities

  • Assisting with the development of overall team and sub-unit strategies
  • Providing input and helping to execute practice schedule
  • Attending all home matches and Nationals ( November 8-10; Location TBD)
  • Assisting Head Coach with match selections
  • Providing effective feedback to individuals and the team
  • Assisting Head Coach and captains with team management and related efforts
  • Serving as lead Coach for B side games as needed
  • Assistance with upholding of club policies set by the club’s executive board

Schedule
Practices are held twice weekly on Tuesday and Thursday evenings in Berkeley, California. We aim to field
both A-side and B-side squads for all matches, as numbers allow. Additionally, the club aims to secure
home matches for the club’s B-side squad as well a limited number of away matches (Atlanta and San
Diego).

Sunday, 9/15/13 Home vs Amazons
Saturday, 9/28/13 Home vs Surfers
Sunday, 10/6/13 Away vs Amazons (Minneapolis, MN)
Saturday, 10/19/13 Home vs Atlanta
Sunday, 10/27/13 Away vs Surfers (San Diego, CA; A and B side travel)
Friday-Sunday, 11/8-10/13 Nationals (Location TBD)

Qualifications
Previous playing and/or coaching experience is required; specific experience coaching women is preferred
but not necessary. Compensation is negotiable and commensurate with experience. Travel expenses will
be paid by the club.
