Canada wins Nations Cup Championship, USA takes Third

The USA polished off their Nations Cup campaign with a 61-5 dominating performance over South Africa. USA got on the board twice in the first six minutes and the tries poured in from there. Kugler, Walsh, Ringgenberg, Cavanaugh, Bizer & Turley all contributed to the scoring. At the half, USA led South Africa 39-5.

The second half, revealed that the USA had made several subs, but the half was not shy of tries. Boone, Bonny & Zdanczewicz all got over the line to extend the scoring line. This Nations Cup campaign is an improvement for USA and for South Africa as well. At the 2011 USA Nations Cup the USA finished third as well, but were 0-3. As for South Africa the score lines for these matches were closer than in any of their prior Nations Cup experiences. Clearly 7s is the tool that is improving all of these teams!

England came into the 2013 Nations Cup Championship with a record of 17-1. The only loss was from the first round of the 2013 Nations Cup as England missed victory by one point against Canada. Canada would add a 2nd win to that column as they outlasted England 27-13 in the Final. This match was eagerly awaited as we knew it would be England’s power attack vs Canada’s dynamic wide attack. Canada showcased their prowess of going wide quickly as Jessica Dovanne raced 60 meters to open the scoring. England answered with a penalty kick from fly-half Ceri Large, but Canada answered quickly with winger Bianca Farella chasing down a counter kick for the score. At this point England seemed to settle into their game plan as they used their powerful attack to drive over the line for a try, Canada led 14-8 at half.

England came out tough at the second half, holding Canada initially to two penalty kicks. England attempted to clear the ball deep into Canada’s corner, but Canada collected and Bianca Farella outran everyone on the pitch for her second try. England made several last minute attempts to score but Canada held them to 27-13 for the win.
