Tokyo Snags 2020 Olympics & Rugby!

A few weeks ago the IOC awarded Tokyo the rights to host the 2020 Olympics. This will be the second venue for Olympic Rugby with the first in Rio de Janeiro in 2016. Rugby in Japan is relatively popular and the 2020 Olympics will come on the heels of the 2019 Men’s Rugby World Cup. The Olympic 7’s tournament is expected to be held in the renovated National Olympic Stadium instead of the Chichibunomiya Rugby Stadium, the traditional venue for high-profile rugby matches, including the annual Tokyo 7’s.

To get the bid, Tokyo beat out Istanbul and Madrid on the final day of voting.
