NSCRO Small College Women’s Clubs Driving for the Prize – Nov 23-24, 2013 at Cherry Hill, NJ

The 2013 NSCRO Women’s Small College National Playoffs are moving forward at a fast pace. Two teams have secured a berth in the National Championship event set for Nov. 23-24 in Cherry Hill, NJ. While six others are still in the hunt with an eye on the prize of being crowned the National Small College Champion!

Region 1- Northeast => Smith College
Chris Reed and Colby-Sawyer College (New London, NH) hosted this 4-team regional event last weekend. It feature the top 3 New England Union teams (University of New England, Wesleyan University and Franklin Pierce University) and the top New England Wide Conference team (Smith College). Both Smith and UNE were totally dominated their semifinal matches against Franklin Pierce (51-0) and Wesleyan (109-8), respectively. On Sunday, FPU took 3rd place honors 42-10 over Wesleyan. In the final, Smith hung on to beat UNE 18-10 and claim its first-ever place in the NSCRO National Championship. Smith College is located in Northampton, MA.

Region 2 – New England Empire
This Sunday the Colonial Coast CRC Champion, Roger Williams University, is scheduled to play the University of Rochester. RWU is looking to return to the National Championship as the club finished 2nd in 2012. The Rochester ladies have not been the NSCRO playoffs before and have their own plans to travel to Cherry Hill.

Region 3 – Mid-Atlantic
This Region has expanded in 2013 with the first-time inclusion of Ohio Small Colleges. Kenyon College won the Oho Small College league and are headed to Swarthmore College (Swarthmore,PA) this weekend for the Regional Championship. Kenyon will face the cadets of Virginia Military Institute, the Capital Conference Champion, in one semifinal pairing. The other semifinal features Tri-State Conference Champion, Sacred Heart University, against the East Penn Champ, Millersville University. All 4 clubs are making their inaugural appearance in the NSCRO playoffs. The players will also get the opportunity to watch the USA Eagles play the New Zealand Maori All-Blacks at nearby PPL Park stadium on Saturday. NSCRO arranged for tickets for all of the teams.

Region 4 – West => Wayne State College
Defending National Champions, Wayne State College (of Nebraska), who reportedly were rebuilding after last year’s success secured their 2nd trip in a row to Cherry Hill with a convincing win over Moorhead State, the Minnesota RFU Champion, 51-12 this past Sunday in Wayne.
