from New York Rugby:
The NYRC Women’s team is pleased to announce our coaching team for the Spring 2014 season:
Wil Snape will be taking on the position of head coach, and he will be assisted by Maura Wiese (Weikman) and Koma Gandy.
Wil is no stranger to the women’s team as he has previously served in both assistant and head coaching roles. In the interim, Wil has become an assistant with the USA U20s serving as the forwards coach. Prior to his involvement with the women’s team, Wil has been heavily involved with coaching in our U19 program.
Wil has an extensive background as a rugby player, growing up in the UK and playing for multiple age-grade and representative teams, and played professionally for the Northampton Saints. He has coaching certifications in both the UK and the US, and has coached for over 12 years. Asked why he wanted to return to the NY Women he said, “New York Rugby Club is close to my heart… The opportunity to work with the players I knew, and the new talent in the team is exciting and the potential immense. I believe we will build a team that will make NYRC a serious force in the WPL.”
Koma and Maura have a combined 31 years experience playing women’s rugby. Both have extensive experience playing on regional select sides and have been involved in the USA 7s pool and USA 15s development team. These NYRC alums are no stranger to the demands of the WPL and are fully committed to helping Wil build a competitive team this Spring. Their experience and enthusiasm for this club will be a huge asset in our development.
We look forward to a successful season and our team is excited to bring this coaching trio on board!
