Penn State Women’s Rugby Claims Three Titles in 2015

Penn State Women's Rugby Captures USA College 7s and Collegiate Rugby Championship 7sPenn State has added another accolade to their long list of achievements. Two weeks ago they clinched the 2015 USA Rugby College 7s Women’s Division I National Championship and last week they also captured the 2015 Collegiate Rugby Championships (CRCs).

They’ve now captured the USA Rugby 15s and 7s titles and the USA Sevens 7s CRC title. They become the first team in history to do so.

At the USA 7s Championships they faced a formidable Central Washington who was still stinging from a 61-7 defeat at the 2015 USA Rugby College 15s National Championships. This time around the Nittany Lions controlled the first half and led, 28-7.

“It feels really amazing,” Bizer said post-match. “Penn State’s never won a sevens national championship before, so this is a first for our program and we’re trying to set a standard.”

Cal, Stanford, and Virginia were each considered contenders for the DI title after pool play, though Cup Quarterfinal matchups with Penn State and Central Washington for the Cardinal and Golden Bears, respectively, knocked two out of the tournament.
