We Support #HERRUGBYCOUNTS

Her Rugby Counts | #HERRUGBYCOUNTS

We’d just finished surveying the attending teams of the Collegiate Rugby Championship (CRC) about their experience attending the tournament and were crafting our own article. Then the #HERRUGBYCOUNTS campaign broke and we knew we had to get behind it. Becky Carlson, head coach of Quinnipiac University’s varsity women’s rugby team is asking for change and started it by posting an open letter on Linkedin.

In the letter, Carlson asks event sponsor Penn Mutual, broadcasting partner NBC Sports, and host USA Sevens (a subsidiary of United World Sports) for an apology to all of women’s rugby. While the apology will probably never happen, the change could. What the women’s teams are asking for isn’t crazy as rugby is the fastest growing sport in the US and women’s rugby has a market. Why wouldn’t NBC Sports want to be FIRST in line for the fastest growing sport in America?

Carlson has since posted a petition to Change.org which has received over 4,500 signatures in less than a week. We encourage you to share your experience using hash tag #HerRugbyCounts on Twitter and Facebook. We also encourage you to sign and share the petition, buy a supporters tshirt, and don’t support the CRC until there is real change.
