The Czech women’s rugby team received a unique proposal to participate in the final group of The European Trophy, the oldest international women’s rugby tournament.
The European trophy is a great chance to get experience playing against foreign teams on a high level of rugby. We have been training really hard to prepare to compete on such a level. The big issue, however, is not our physical preparation and rugby skills but a financial issue.
Although rugby is the second most common womens team sport in the world, even in Czech Republic is gaining popularity, there are 16 teams competing in three official leagues, all clubs and unions are having serious financial troubles. We are used to paying our own costs – we usually participate in rugby camps across the country and we pay for tickets, food, the field and equipment. Many of our players are still studying, so the support of parents and friends is always needed.
Now we would like to ask you a favour. Dear fans of rugby, sport enthusiasts and all good people, you have a chance to help a group of diligent and passionate rugby girls to make them go and represent the Czech Republic. We will do our best and will leave everything we have at the field, that’s our part of the agreement.
