WANTED: World Rugby General Manager Women’s Rugby

World RugbyWorld Rugby is the world governing and law-making body for the sport of Rugby Union based in Dublin. In addition to its governance functions World Rugby organises a number of international tournaments and events including the Rugby World Cup, Women’s Rugby World Cup and the annual HSBC Rugby Sevens World Series and Women’s Sevens World Series Competitions.

As part of its strategy to increase the sustainability and competitiveness of international rugby, World Rugby wishes to appoint a General Manager for Women’s Rugby. This is a permanent position based in Dublin. The role of the General Manager Women’s Rugby is to lead the delivery strategy with the support of the Women’s Advisory Committee through the implementation of appropriate plans and to ensure the growth of the Women’s Game and improvement of the standards at the performance level. This also includes the need to increase participation in the Women’s Game and drive an appropriate policy of gender inclusion at all levels and sectors of the Game (playing, coaching, match officials, judicial, administration).

Principal Accountabilities

Leadership and Governance

  • Lead the implementation of World Rugby development strategies and programmes into the relevant Regions.
  • Maintain links with governmental and non-governmental agencies to best promote the growth of Rugby and to realise the Olympic aspirations.
  • Attend all relevant regional meetings to represent World Rugby strategic and financial interests are protected & represented and to communicate the Regional issues and views to World Rugby.
  • Represent World Rugby as required at relevant Regional and other meetings in the Region.
  • Ensure that World Rugby membership and governance policies are communicated and managed in the Region and to report to World Rugby on relevant membership issues.
  • Participates in Regional Management Team (RMT) and other relevant meetings with World Rugby staff to plan, manage and advise on the implementation of programmes into the Regions and globally.
  • Provide management and leadership services to staff and consultants as agreed with World Rugby and the RA (as defined in the relevant Regional Partnerships Agreement).

 

Strategy and Planning

  • Provide leadership on strategic, operational and Rugby development planning for Women’s Rugby and when required facilitates the production of those plans.
  • Produce operational plans that support the strategy.
  • Share best practice strategies within the game and from other sports and development models.
  • Monitor strategic, operational and Women’s Rugby development plans on a yearly basis.
  • Responsibility for the review, implementation and monitoring of the World Rugby Plan for women’s rugby.
  • Work with Heads of Departments to establish women’s rugby strategies as appropriate with each department.
  • Work with regional associations and member unions to create and strengthen the strategies for women’s rugby.

 

High Performance

  • Provide high level advice and reports on High Performance issues effecting the women’s game to the GM High Performance.
  • Contribute to the development and expansion of the High Performance investment system for the Women’s game.
  • Partner with the GM HP in the development of specific High Performance resources related to the Women’s game.
  • Contribute to the development of a High Performance operational plan and budget.

 

Investment

  • Manage World Rugby Women’s Rugby Investment into the Regional Association as set out in the Development Investment Programme and RPA.
  • Define and monitor that the investment delivers the required return on investment (ROI).
  • Liaises with other World Rugby departments to manage relevant World Rugby Women’s Rugby investment programmes as agreed with that department.

 

Competitions and Tournaments

  • Engage in strategic planning exercises for World Rugby and regional Women’s Rugby competitions by working in conjunction with the Regional Competitions Manager and relevant Regional Structures

Projects

  • Undertake special projects from time to time.

Competencies

  • Seven to ten plus years of leadership, management and operational skills
  • Experience in Sport is highly desirable
  • Extensive experience of creating strategic development programmes and strategies leading to positive results
  • Experience of budget management
  • Understanding and experience of dealing with challenges associated with the delivery of a gender equity and/or diversity programme is highly desirable
  • Proven experience at communicating and influencing at a senior level
  • Represent World Rugby at Regional, Union and other external meetings utilising a high level of tact and diplomacy.
