West Chester Women’s Rugby Cruises in Season Opener over Bloomsburg

The Golden Rams kicked off their fall 2016 season in the heat, earning a big win over Bloomsburg University, 41-12.

Center Lily Riley (Landisville, PA/ Hempfield) was the first member on the squad to put points on the board and followed that up with a good conversion kick.

Tries by Aalea Ray (Landisville, PA/ Hempfield), and Riley put the Golden Rams ahead 24-0 to end the first half over the Huskies.

Continuing the strong offense in the second half was center Nicole Giorgi (Wilmington, Del. / Mount Pleasant), who put another try on the board. Giorgi followed that up with a good kick, giving West Chester a 31-0 lead in the second half.

Flanker Katie Haetter (West Chester,PA/ West Chester East) and Hannah Sample (Oakland, MD/ Southern Garrett) followed suit with two more tries, increasing the lead to 41-0.

Bloomsburg broke the West Chester defense at the end of the game, putting up a pair of tries and conversions on the board.

The Golden Rams will be back in action next Saturday as they host Sacred Heart University at noon.
