WANTED: USA Rugby Head of Physical Performance – Women’s Team

Reports To: Associate Performance Director (or equivalent).

Direct Reports: All Strength and Conditioning Coaches in the Women’s National Programs including 7s and 15s; Strength and Conditioning Assistant Coaches/Interns.

Work Closely with (Internal): Women’s National Team Athletes, Head Coaches and Assistant Coaches, Medical Staff, National Age-Grade coaches, USA Rugby Academy (camps), National Team Managers, HP Services Manager, and Women’s High Performance Staff.

Work Closely with (External): Regional Development Academies, top collegiate and club teams, and National Tracking Camp partners.

Description of Duties

The Head of Physical Performance Coach will work with the women’s national team head coaches and other staff to aid in the planning and execution of all team trainings and match performance as assigned by the Associate Director of Performance, with either national or development teams (7s and/or XVs), with a primary focus on the daily training environment in the USA Rugby women’s national residency program. S/he will help with development, tracking, monitoring, and communications in this regard at various levels of the High Performance Player Pathway. S/he will consult with the GM- Performance, physical performance coaches, head of medical, and / or Men’s National Team Head Coach(es) in all related matters including: Coaching, Training, Scouting, Budget, Calendar and Camp Planning and Execution.

Role Summary – Primary

To produce National Team players who are durable, injury free and possess a level of physicality that enables them to execute technical and tactical skills better then anyone else in the world of rugby.
Analyze team training and player performance levels and progress against program/session goals using a variety of methods including statistical and video based analysis of the team and individual players.
To effectively provide specialist skills to support all aspects of strength, conditioning, and sports science practices to players in the Eagles pool as directed by the head coaches of 7s and XVs and the Associate Director of Performance
Help administer the national program in all aspects of strength & conditioning at international campaigns, implementation of all physical performance protocols as per National Player Physical Development Protocols.
Oversee the build out of the American Rugby Model (USA Rugby’s Long-Term Athlete Development programs)
Participate in USA Rugby clinics and/or camps as assigned by Associate Performance Director.
Role Summary – Secondary

To effectively manage the delivery of all aspects of physical performance support to players along the national age-grade pathway teams, including Selects/Falcons, All-Americans, and ODA athletes.

Decision Making Authority

The Head of Physical Performance has sufficient authority to take measures that are necessary in the day-to-day operations of women’s national program physical development in accordance with budgetary limitations, program plans, and USA Rugby policies and procedures. Beyond these limits, decisions must be approved by the Associate Director of Performance.

Caveats

The Head of Physical Performance is encouraged to do research / academic work and continuing education, assuming it compliments and does not distract from work done in role with USA Rugby.

The Head of Physical Performance is permitted to continue consulting work outside of USA Rugby as long as it does not interfere with national team needs or schedules, and is not with conflicting unions, partners, or sponsors–as determined and approved in writing by General Manager of Performance.
