The third week of play has concluded for the WPL and Glendale and the Twin City Amazons are on top of their respective conferences. It is worth noting that the defending Champions, the San Diego Surfers only have one game under their belt so we expect them to climb the rankings soon. New York has also started their season off strong with two wins, and they will face the Amazons this week.
The DC Furies are still searching for their first win of the season and last week was no different. The Furies scored first to take the lead 5-0 but it was leveled right before the half. Final score was Beantown 17 DC Furies 5.
New York posted up the other shutout this week as they faced the ever tough Atlanta Harlequins. New York went up with three converted tries early in the match but then Atlanta stood their ground in a gritty second half. Final score New York 21 Atlanta Harlequins 0.
Newcomer Chicago NS traveled to ORSU and continues to make their mark on the league. This match was a back and forth battle with ORSU holding off to win 24-17. ORSU typically doesn’t travel well so we’re very interested in the return match on October 21, 2017.
In another close game this week, Glendale continued to show they have immense grit even when facing a stealthy Surfers team. Glendale drew blood first with a try by Justine Wypych but the Surfers responded with two quick tries by Talia Carrasquillo and Tia Blythe, 12-7 to the Surfers. Glendale came out storming in the second half though as Hannah Stolba converted her own try while the Surfers slotted a penalty. Final score Glendale 21 San Diego Surfers 15.
