USA Rugby oversees four national teams, multiple collegiate and high school All-American sides, and an emerging Olympic development pathway for elite athletes.

USA Rugby is currently hiring for the position of  Head Coach, National Senior Women’s Fifteens (WNT15s)

Job Purpose:

Under consultation and direction of the GM – WHP, The Head Coach of WNT15s, has a primary responsibility to perform and deliver on all aspects of being a senior national team head coach including planning, team preparation & management, player management, coordination of the national XVs program camps, any potential residency program(s), test and tournament assemblies, and international tours. The person appointed to this role will be required to coach to a world-class level; manage and develop players; plan, program, and manage high performance training sessions; build rapport internally company-wide as well as with external stakeholders, including clubs, fans, and the media; cultivate external relationships and help drive fund-raising to augment support of the WNT15s. In addition, this person will drive a trusting environment of continuous improvement through clear, honest communication and understanding the needs of players and staff alike.

Essential Job Functions:

The Head Coach, WNT15s will be responsible for performing the following roles and/or delivering the following outcomes:

  • Selection:
    • Plan and design clear and transparent team selection processes in line with program objectives and philosophy and in conjunction with USA W7s HC and GM-HP
    • Identifying, assessing, and selecting players for all team assemblies and competitions
    • Ensure that the team maintains an appropriate standard of discipline
    • Work with GH-WHP and age grade coaches to drive the creation and maintenance of a relevant player depth chart for future international successes
  •  Personnel & team management
    • Coach the team to perform at a world-class level in international fixtures, tours and competitions
    • Work cooperatively with the management staff (assistant coaches, manager and the GM-WHP)
    • Provide team leadership and management
    • Ensure adoption by the team and team management of a team vision, values, standards, protocols
    • Demonstrate personal credibility, honesty, high integrity, show an ability to handle pressure and stress appropriately
    • Work closely with the program’s strength and conditioning resource to ensure that the players are provided with appropriate physical preparation plans
    • Collaborating with GM-WHP to develop staffing plans to maximize team performance with the senior team
    • Develop team protocols and standards with input from staff and players and ensure these are maintained, and deal effectively and appropriately with any breach or conflict
  •  Player/ Team coaching:
    • Design, plan and implement a coaching program that supports participant’s development needs including: annual planning, incorporating team and individual development; game planning, considering team, opponent and environmental characteristics; and session planning based on evaluation of team and individual plan
    • Undertake and record player performance expectations with each player before the campaign
    • Provide regular performance and development review feedback to each player with reference to match analysis during campaign/camp or training
    • Provide technical and tactical coaching to individuals, mini units, and the team as a whole
    • Ensure players are fit to participate based on appropriate medical advice and against appropriate playing fitness standards
    • Use and facilitate the use of technical specialist coaches where required
    • Analyze team and player performance levels and progress against program/session goals using a variety of methods including notational, statistical and video – based systems which incorporate the individual player; involving players in analysis of performance needs and aspirations
    • Develop appropriate game plans, review and measure individual and team performance against these plans
    • Remain up to date in modern game development, including new laws and their impact on the game
  •  Age Grade Support
    •  Identify and integrate age grade players as needed/ready into the senior team program
    •  Commitment to support the alignment of all WNT programs including regular and open communication, knowledge exchange, and cooperation with all other WNT program coaches
  •  Assisting in delivery of development programs to WHP Pathway athletes via National Development Academies and national regional camps, as planned and agree annually
  •  Be available to support regional and age grade coaches and programs at designated camps and competitions to assist the development of AG coaches & maximize player development and pathway alignment
  •  Assist as may be necessary and appropriate in sponsorship fulfillment and coordinate Women’s National Team fundraising activities with the GM-WHP
    • Build relationships to cultivate continuous philanthropic support of the WNT15s
  •  Work closely with National Senior Women’s 7s Team Coach and GM-WHP in development of integrated 7s & 15s plans for fixtures, players and player development/assessment
  •  Support the Women’s Rugby 7s Head Coach as an assistant coach / specialty coach when requested (candidate dependent)

Decision Making Authority:

The Head Coach has sufficient authority to take measures that are necessary in relation to the day-to-day management of the WNT15s team in accordance with budgetary limitations, program plans and USA Rugby policies and procedures.

Beyond these limits, GM-WHP must approve decisions.
