Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens Gets Set for Kick-off

This weekend is the Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens Tournament in Dubai! Last year the tournament was hugely successful and so this year it is expected to be just as phenomenal. The women’s bracket is available on the Emirates site but is buried behind all of the men’s stuff so I have laid it out below. I was also able to gather a few rosters, but not that many.

Along with Rugby Ecosse and Wooden Spoon Women, the up and coming USA Eagles are also being considered among the favourites to take the women’s title.  As a prequel, yesterday the USA scrimmaged the Arabian Gulf team and the scrimmage was fought hard with USA taking a W home.

I am still searching to see if any of the matches will be available to watch on the web but have only heard that ESPN360.com will show some of the men’s semi-finals and finals. Let me know if you hear of any way to watch the matches! I would encourage you to follow me on Twitter and Facebook as I will be posting updates as soon as I find them.

Make sure to check out Structure Fire as a few players are writing blogs on the USA Women’s team experience in Dubai!

  1. Hey Wendy, I’ve been searching for DAYS trying to find online streaming. I did find this guy that’s posting matches on youtube:

    Hope that helps!

  2. Wow, that is a very embarrassing first performance for the USA Women’s 7s team, to finish in the bottom half of teams for a small international tournament like this (with poor competition like Kenya and Georgia, instead of countries like Australia, NZ, etc).

International blogs are saying that it looks like the USA Women’s Team “doesn’t look like they know how to play 7’s,” and I have to agree. Do we need “new coaching blood” to fix this?

If not, we need to watch how the USA coaches change their decision-making going forward. Hopefully, Vegas IRB 7’s will give them a chance to see more individuals within the USA player pool perform in live-game environments. This seems like it would be the most intelligent way for selections and development to be improved moving forward.

Anyone else have thoughts or comments on why this showing was so poor?

  3. You might want to know that Marlien Cronje of Tuks Ladies (South Africa) falsified her date of birth from 1985-10-13 to 1982-10-13 back in 1999/2000. This was done via contacts at the department of Home Affairs South Africa. What else might she falsifying and cheating with? She even has a heart disease yet she is shoved in everywhere! Are there even doping tests done on her?
