WPL Week 3: New York at ORSU

Unfortunately ORSU do not have a YSC Reporter, so no score update or match report. If you have any details or would like to do send a match report in, please feel free to email me.

UPDATE: Thanks to USA Eagle Beckett Royce for sending in this quick write-up!

ORSU opened up the scoring with a penalty kick from about 25 meters out (Liz Kilgore).  New York bounced back and scored an unconverted try in the corner.  Then with less than a minute before halftime, ORSU made a crucial error inside its own 22, giving up possession which New York capitalized on.   The score was 12-3 at the half with New York leading.

New York camped out inside ORSU’s 22 for the first few minutes of the second half and scored again in the corner.  ORSU bounced back though and after a series of phases, fullback Tonya Ansel touched down ORSU’s first try which went unconverted.  New York again found their way into ORSU’s 22 and after a long battle and a series of penalties, Carrie DuBray carried it over for New York.  ORSU came back and struck through the centers making good territory.  The forwards finished it off after several phases of pick and gos, with prop Stephanie Mitchell scoring the try… again unconverted.

ORSU continued to pressure New York and their backs found holes again as winger Elaine Schlarb broke free on the outside and popped the ball to flanker Beckett Royce as she was being tackled.  Beckett scored ORSU’s 3rd try with 7 minutes left in the match.  The next few minutes were extremely tough and physical as both sides battled for possession.  New York won the ball as time expired and kicked it into touch ending the game.

The final score was ORSU 18 – NY 22.
