USA Rugby DI Women’s College Teams Set for Playoff Battles This Weekend

BOULDER, Colo. — The 16 best women’s Division I college rugby teams in the country are set to battle this weekend in the Emirates Airline USA Rugby Women’s DI College Playoffs which will be held at three different locations around the country; Bowling Green State University (BGSU), University at Buffalo, and the National Sports Center in Blaine, Minn.

The 16 playoff teams are divided into four groups, with one team emerging undefeated from each group to advance to the semifinals on May 13. The victorious semifinalists will take the field for the National Championship game on May 14. Both semifinals and the Championship game will be played in Stanford, Calif.
This weekend, each playoff location will host one group with the exception of the National Sports Center in Blaine, Minn. that will host two.

Group A will see defending National Champions and first-seeded Penn State, take on the 16th seeded University of Northern Iowa. Stanford University is set to take on Dartmouth in the other Group A clash on Friday.

Army will do battle with the University of New Mexico to start the Group B action in Blaine, and the University of California – San Diego (UCSD) is set to take on University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill.

Also in Blaine, Cougar Women’s Rugby will play the University of California – Los Angeles (UCLA) to start their playoff campaign. Also in Group B, Colorado State University will be taking on Navy.
Finally, in Group D Brown University plays the University of Michigan women and the University of Virginia will square off with the University of California – Davis.

Winners of the first round matches will move on to the Round of 8 and play against the other undefeated team in their group on Saturday. The losing teams from Friday will play again on Saturday to determine seeding for next year’s playoffs.
