Youth Rugby Out Reach – U20 Nations Cup

Today, the U20 Eagles took a break from the field and stepped out into the community. They are visiting the Girl Scouts Day Camp and the UCSB Summer Day Camp as part of the U20 Nations Cup Youth Outreach Legacy program. Legacy activites spreading the joys of rugby and giving back to local host communities are an important element of major sports events, including iRB World Cups. The purpose of the U20NC Legacy program is to bring rugby into the community in hopes of educating young people on the spirit of rugby, sharing information on the countries competing in the tournament and leaving a lasting impression when they part. Alex Williams, USA Women’s HP Manager, worked with Kurt Weaver, USA Director of Youth & High School Rugby, and his staff to organize a Youth Rugby Outreach event for each team.

This afternoon USA will have a Q&A about rugby and the team, demonstrate some skills and then play some drills and games. All four teams are participating in this event. South Africa visited Girls Inc-Santa Barbara last Friday. The girls were very excited to meet the players and hear all about life and culture in South Africa. Girls Inc played relay races and one brave camp member volunteered to be a jumper in a line out. Canada and England will join the fun as well today visiting the Westside Boys and Girls Club as well as Girls Inc-Goleta. The teams head back to the practice field tomorrow in preparation of the third round of pool play to be played on Wednesday in Harder Stadium.
