7s Club Championships, Day 1 Mash from Rucking Insurance

Thanks to Kevin of Rucking Insurance for this writeup:

NOVA, Berkeley, the DC Furies and San Diego dominated the pool play of the Women’s 7s Nat’l Championship on Field 2, Ray Sheeran Field, SFGG Rugby’s home on Treasure Island, San Francisco.

San Diego and DC worked very hard for their wins. NOVA appeared as professionals, as if they played 7s full-time for a living.

Laura Cabrerra and Brandon Sparks, the ABs 7s coaches, summed up the day, “The competition has totally improved since last year. Line breaks don’t necessarily result in tries, and we need to use our system more than simply rely on speed and athletes.”

Pacing the sidelines was Serevi, the greatest 7s player ever, giving guidance and wisdom to the young Seattle Side. Belmont, a usual 15s powerhouse, struggled to find a rhythm. And, on a personal note, the lack of quit in Philadelphia, despite losing all day, was impressive.

As always, you can find Sunday’s scorelines on twitter @rugbyinsurance or @YSCRugby . To see the scores from the tournament so far, go here.

See you in the Rucks,
Keivn
