from West Rugby:

The Women’s Club Division 2 Championship was held this past weekend (October 22-23) in Norman, OK. The Atomic Sisters (Rio Grande) held on to their Women’s Club Division 2 Champions title this weekend, but not without having to work for it. Due to the late withdrawal of Glendale Women II (Eastern Rockies) and the inability to replace a 4th team on short notice, the format was revised to a 3-team round-robin. The Atomic Sisters defeated KC Jazz (Heart of America) 15-7 in the morning game. In the afternoon game, the Jazz defeated the Kansas University Women (Heart of America) 15-14 to avenge their loss during league play. On Sunday morning, the Atomic Sisters shut-out the KU Women 15-0 to take the title.

The Atomic Sisters will advance to the USA Rugby D2 Club Championships in Virginia Beach, VA on Nov 11-13, 2011. To see the current D2 Club Standings, go here.

Special thanks to Holly Iker, the Chair of the West Women’s Council, and the University of Oklahoma Women for hosting the event. Thanks also to Randy Campbell, Chair of the West Referee Association, for officating the games.
