Amy Naber – USA Rugby Sevens Eagle, Day 1 Training & the Death Flop!

Amy Naber - U20 Nations Cup

Training, Day 1 (Sevens Camp)

First session we did speed testing with a 40m race. Vix rocked it, with Vanesha close on her tail. Amy Daniels said “I may be the oldest but I’m not the slowest!”. She’s definitely a great role model for young eagles like myself!

Second session ended with the death flop. If you don’t know what death flop is, here ya go! To sum it up: sprints, flopping onto the ground, rolling and more sprints…nearly throwing up, lactate buildup and lightheadedness. After 5 hours of training it took ever last ounce of energy but everyone survived. Huge round of applause to the All Americans for joining us! It was great to have so many passionate rugby players working hard together. It was great motivation to feed off each others energy to finish strong.

We haven’t had a goal setting meeting yet but a few of us attended the 15’s meeting this afternoon. It was great to see the structure of their program! The coaches are committed to player development that will lead to a great performance in 2014.

Today we had the opportunity to switch our brains into 7s mode with great free flowing games that had us working on our attack and defense without even thinking about it.
