BACKGROUND:

USA Rugby is recognized by the United States Olympic Committee as the National Governing Body for the sport of Rugby in the USA. USA RUGBY oversees the development and promotion of the game of Rugby at the Youth, High School, Collegiate, Club and National Team levels. USA RUGBY has over 100,000 members nationally and organizes National Championship tournaments for all divisions. The Headquarters / National Office for USA RUGBY is located in Boulder, Colorado. The organization combines the work of a professional staff at the National Office with that of thousands of volunteers across the country.

DESCRIPTION:

The Event Operations Manager is responsible for the pre-event logistical planning and the execution of match-day operations for USA Rugby hosted and sanctioned events. These events include but are not limited to: international test matches, international tournaments and USA Rugby National Championship Series events. This position reports directly to the Events Director.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Improve departmental operational systems, processes and policies in support of USA Rugby’s strategic plan.

• Work with the Events Director to coordinate all aspects of venue operations including but not limited to: facilities management, accreditation system development and implementation, ticketing, sponsor activation, sports presentation, broadcast and competition.

• Responsible for ordering and maintaining equipment and supplies necessary for the completion of USA Rugby hosted events.

• Manage logistical operations and scheduling of event equipment, team transportation and training fields.

• Research and negotiate team accommodations including hotels, meals, transportation, and training venues for international matches and relevant USA Rugby Championship Series events.

• Work with the Events Director to ensure all event operation timelines and team service deliverables are met.

• Provide event experience guidance for volunteer event staff and USA Rugby member clubs and event hosts.

• Work with Chief Marketing Officer and Events Director to implement “Look and Feel” aspects for all USA Rugby hosted events.

• Research new facilities and event opportunities for Event Director.

• Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS/EXPERIENCE:

• Minimum Bachelor’s degree in event management, sports administration, sports management, marketing, business or similar field of study.

• Knowledge of sports events and marketplace. Rugby experience is highly desired.

• Excellent written and verbal communications skills with the flexibility, ability, and tact to work with a variety of situations and people (including volunteers) to accomplish tasks.

• Minimum of two years of experience in event planning and/or event management with proven leadership/management skills.

• Computer proficiency: Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point.

• Ability to concurrently manage several high-priority tasks and events.

• Ability to lift at least 50lbs.

COMPENSATION:

This is a full time position with nights and weekends, and travel, required as necessary for events. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Benefits include health insurance, dental, vision, flexible spending account, retirement plan and two weeks paid time off plus holidays.
