The match was the initial Premier League contest for both Blue division teams . The hard fought match was well-refereed by Olivia Nigh, and the Furies ultimately prevailed with a score of 27-15.

The scoring got off to a quick start, as Lauren Rhode of the Furies dotted down after a backline break shortly after the 2 minute mark. The conversion went wide, setting the score at 5-0 in D.C.’s favor. Urgent passes then resulted in numerous scrums, in which the forward packs adjusted to the new scrum cadence. The Furies found themselves another opportunity to score after breakdown infringements against NYRC, and Rhodes slotted the penalty kick to up the score to 8-0 Furies. As the half progressed, the Furies’ Julie Law broke away to find her way over the tryline. Rhode converted and the score at the 25th minute was then 15-0, Furies. NYRC then rallied to send Jordyn Lexton over the line after a forward drive, bringing the score to 15-5 at halftime.

After the half, NYRC continued their offensive momentum. At the 46th minute, NYRC charged down a D.C. kick, rebounded the ball in the try zone, and touched down to bring NYRC within 5 points of D.C. Ten Minutes later, NYRC’s Naomi Oberman-Breindel punched the ball over the line, tying the score 15-15. The game continued with alternating possession, interrupted by the Furies’ Amanda Street running wide  to score in the corner in the final span of the game, 20-15 Furies.

NYRC was able to regain possession, but despite numerous minutes spent within the Furies’ red zone, NYRC was unable to score. The Furies’ Katie O’Malley then intercepted a pass sent wide and, in the final play, ran the remaining 90 meters to score between the posts. Lauren Rhode then converted the try, closing the math with a score of Furies 27, NYRC 15. Next weekend, NYRC will host Beantown and the Furies will play Glendale.
