Halfway Point in WPL Competition, Who’s on Top?

This weekend will mark the halfway point of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) Competition. Lets take a look at the past four weeks and who is on top and bottom of each conference.

Blue Conference
The Glendale Raptors are sitting pretty on top of the Blue Conference with a massive 129 points for and only 46 points allowed. The dark horse of the Blue Conference has been the DC Furies as they’ve defeated New York (27-15) and Beantown (19-12). The Furies will face the Blue Conference leader this week, at home this time, the last time they met, Glendale coasted to an easy win 29-5. We expect the Furies to put up another fight this time, we think Glendale will edge out the win. We expect that the Furies will do everything within their power to keep the scoreline much tighter this time around though.

Rounding out the bottom half of the Blue Conference includes Beantown and New York. Beantown hasn’t been the perennial powerhouse of years past and only has one win to their name over New York (37-8). However, they do hold the closest scoreline on Glendale (36-48), so we wouldn’t be surprised if they added another W to the column this weekend as they face New York again. New York has yet to record a win and seems to be having a hard time getting over the tryline as they’ve only scored 28 points in three games. New York has seen some big names retire but definitely has some young names that are coming up through the program.

Red Conference
In this conference the Amazons are currently sitting on top but they are being chased each week by a determined Berkeley squad. Berkeley has a new coach in place and they are playing very well under the new leadership. This week we could see a new leader if Berkeley can upset the Twin Cities, in their last meeting the Amazons eeeked out a win by one point (22-21).

On the bottom of the red conference is the Surfers with one win and two losses and the newest team in the WPL, Atlanta, has had some harsh lessons with three losses. The Surfers have not traveled well due to other commitments but are looking to move to two wins this week as they visit Atlanta again. We don’t expect Atlanta to roll over, but we do expect the Surfers to win, even on the road.
