USA Rugby now accepting bids to host 2014 spring playoff events

Screen Shot 2013-04-05 at 1.13.19 PMBOULDER, Colo. – USA Rugby is now accepting bids for the 2014 men’s and women’s collegiate and senior club playoffs.

The 2014 Men’s Division I-AA and Women’s Division I & II collegiate playoffs will commence the weekend of April 26 and conclude the weekend of May 10. USA Rugby is seeking four to eight regional sites as well as one to two championship venues. Each regional location will host 4 to 12 teams, with the number varying on the geographic needs of the bracket and the availability of quality venues.

1 Regional Venues: April 25-26 Women’s DI / Women’s DII (4-8 Teams per Venue)
3-7 Regional Venues: April 26-27 – Women’s DI / Women’s DII / Men’s DI-AA (4-12 Teams per Venue)
1-2 Championship Venues: May 9-11 – Women’s DI / Women’s DII / Men’s DI-AA

2012-2013 women’s collegiate events were held in Stanford, Calif.; Allendale, Mich.; Annapolis, Md.; and Pittsburgh, Pa. 2013 men’s collegiate events were held in Pittsburgh, Pa.; Tucson, Ariz.; Knoxville, Tenn.; Madison, Wis.; and Bowling Green, Ohio.

The 2014 Women’s Division I & II and Men’s Division I, II, & III club playoffs will be held on May 17-18 and May 31-June 1. The national quarter-final and semi-final events will be held in two regional locations (1 in the Western U.S.; 1 in the Eastern U.S.) and feature 20 teams per site (12 men’s; 8 women’s).

2 Regional Venues: May 17-18 Men’s Division I / Men’s Division II / Men’s Division III / Women’s Division I / Women’s Division II
1 Championship Venue: May 31-June 1 Men’s Division I / Men’s Division II / Men’s Division III / Women’s Division I / Women’s Division II

2012-2013 senior club events were held in Virginia Beach, Va.; Irving, Texas; Lawrenceville, Ga.; Fort Myers, Fla.; and Glendale, Colo.

Priority will go to venues that have either qualified teams in the area or are central to potentially qualified teams. Additional priority will go toward venues that are within one hour from a major international airport and can provide affordable accommodation and transportation for teams. USA Rugby prioritizes affordability for traveling teams and will not require teams to stay in designated hotels

USA Rugby will be accepting bids until Nov. 8, 2013. It is expected that spring venues will be selected and announced by December 6, 2013.
