NYRC DC Furies Women's RugbyNew York and the D.C. Furies met for their first and last games of the season, with this last weekend’s match kicking off in New York. Unfortunately for New York, the results were also similar to their first match of the season, with the Furies taking the season closer 26 – 7.

The first fifteen minutes of the game were a tight battle between the two teams, with each having opportunities to get points on the board. The Furies were the first to capitalize, as inside center Sam Pankey broke New York’s defense and got the first five points of the game.

New York was not phased, coming out strong and continuing for another twenty strong minutes of play. Shortly before the end of the half, however, D.C. flyhalf Lauren Rhode scored and converted her own try, bringing the score up to 12 – 0 at the half.

The Furies widened their lead in the second half, with flanker Ellen Danford and Rhode each scoring another try, both of which were converted by Rhode.

With time left to make a comeback, New York’s forwards worked the ball down the field in the 65th minute before swinging the ball out to the back line, who effortlessly got the ball out to speedy winger Lisa Roselin. Roselin sprinted outside of the Furies’ defense and scored a try in the far side of the try zone. With an unbelievable kick, flyhalf Mary McCarthy converted the try to bring the score 26-7.

The final 15 minutes of the game were much like the first 15, with each team fighting hard to get more points on the board. The whistle blew before any other tries were scored.
