WANTED: Graduate Assistant Coach, Central Washington University Varsity Women’s Rugby

Central Washington RugbyCWU Women’s Rugby (currently second in the nation in Division 1) is looking for a Graduate Assistant Coach to work with elite level collegiate student-athletes in a full time varsity rugby setting. Qualified candidates will earn a free master’s degree in their desired field while assisting the head coach in planning, coaching/mentoring, recruiting, administering, and promoting the women’s rugby program within NCAA and institutional standards.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Assists head coach in planning and conducting team practices, training, conditioning, and competitions; Teaches rugby skills to student-athletes.
  • Serves as a mentor by demonstrating a sincere interest in the academic success and general well being of each student-athlete, from a student first perspective.
  • Assists head coach with recruiting efforts including travel to tournaments, participation in campus visits of prospective students, etc.
  • Completes the NCAA Coach Certification Test and complies with the rules and regulations of the NCAA, institution and conference regulations
  • Assists the head coach in planning the budget for the women’s rugby program (equipment, team travel, recruiting, etc.)
  • Assists head coach in planning and developing a competitive schedule and coordinating team travel
  • Assists head coach in promoting the CWU Women’s Rugby program through community outreach, rugby camps, etc.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Strong knowledge of rugby skills and strategies (15s and 7s)
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.
  • Strong organizational skills and work ethic.
  • Minimum 3-5 years experience playing and/or coaching rugby at the high school, club or collegiate level.
  • Preferred experience with backs specific play and/or 7s
