WANTED: Head Men’s Rugby Coach Monroe College

Monroe College Men's Rugby Coach WantedMonroe College, a leading educator of urban and international students with campuses in the Bronx and New Rochelle New York, is seeking a dynamic and energetic individual to build a new Rugby Academy at the college. The Head Coach of the Rugby Academy will report to the Athletic Director and be responsible for all aspects of developing and running the Rugby Academy. 

Candidates should enjoy working in a hands-on, fast-paced environment and have a strong entrepreneurial spirit.  Candidates should be goal oriented, organized, and capable of thinking strategically.  Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree and have strong communication skills.   

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and instruction in the personal and athletic development of student-athletes both on and off the field.
    • Monitor academic progress and ensure progress towards degree completion.
    • Counsel team members in academic, disciplinary, and personal matters.
    • Consult with College administration, staff, and faculty for resolution of issues as required.
    • Insure team members handle themselves in a professional manner and represent the College well.  Insure student-athletes conduct themselves in a manner that complies with all College codes of conduct.
  • Manage overall team operations including:
    • All aspects of day to day operations and student-athlete progress
    • Design and implement of practice plans
    • Promotion of the Rugby Academy in conjunction with public relations and marketing
  • Hire, coordinate and manage assistant coaches.
    • Ensure a culture of support between coaches and student-athletes.
    • Identify quality candidates as potential assistant coaches.
    • Provide performance appraisals on coaching staff.
    • Supervise coaching staff in the implementation of practice plans
    • Direct coaching staff during competition to provide preparation to our student-athletes
  • Implement a recruiting plan for the program in conjunction with Athletic Admissions
    • Assign geographic areas, identify recruiting events and locations, and supervise coaching staff in the recruitment of student-athletes.
  • Adhere to Monroe College athletic policies and insure full compliance within the athletic conference in which our rugby team competes.
  • Responsible for the scheduling of competition.
  • Recommend and manage the budget related to the Rugby Academy including:
    • Institutional aid budget (Scholarships)
    • Team expenditures related to equipment & uniforms.
    • Travel expenses
    • Assistant coach expenses
  • Represent Monroe College in a professional manner.
    • Act as the official representative of the College on the field of play.
    • Promote sportsmanship among participants of the team and opponents

Requirements

  • Possess a strong work ethic, carry a high level of integrity, character, and honesty.
  • Earned a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Have a minimum of five years coaching Rugby.  Coaching at the college or university level is preferred.
  • Ability to work flexible schedule, including nights and weekends and have the ability to travel.  Also must be able to attend athletic functions organized by the college.
  • Have excellent communication skills to work with a diverse constituency including students, parents, coaches, faculty, staff, administration, and outside contacts.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.

About Monroe College Athletics

Monroe College’s athletics programs emphasize the development of the total individual, supporting and nurturing the student as well as the athlete. All Monroe teams are members of the National Junior College Athletic Association and participate in NJCAA Region XV. Monroe Mustangs men’s basketball, football, men’s and women’s soccer, and baseball are Division I programs, as are all the track and field and cross country teams. Monroe women’s basketball and softball compete in Division II. 

In addition to its’ NJCAA athletic teams, the athletic department runs Academies in Soccer, Baseball and Basketball for student athletes that want to participate in a structured athletic program without using NJCAA eligibility.
