Top ranked women’s rugby team in the Pacific out in the cold

foru_logoThe inaugural Oceania Rugby Championship for women will feature just two teams, Fiji and Papua New Guinea, who will meet in a one off game in Suva on November 5th.

The winners will go on to compete against teams from Asia in Hong Kong in December with the top two joining the 12-team line-up for the World Cup in August next year.

Despite being 21 places ahead of Fiji on the current world rankings Samoa have not been invited to take part in the World Cup qualifying process.

Women’s 7s coach Ramsey Tomokino says the absence of a domestic 15-a-side competition has cost Samoa their place.
