I liked a @YouTube video https://t.co/yP2SpsU2Ye One to Watch: Spain’s Patricia Garcia
— YSC #WRugby (@yscrugby) February 2, 2017
Spain’s Patricia Garcia is one of our favorite athletes out there. Whether she’s tearing up the 7s or 15s pitch, she is the heart and soul of her team. Not to mention one of the best kickers on the 7s circuit.

The addition of Naya Tapper to the USA team has been electrfying to say the least! She’s not afraid of contact but has the strenth and power to back it up. You’ll often notice that Griffin gets the ball to Kelter who makes a break and then offloads to Tapper…we like that!

Trump’s travel ban worries Sudanese-Canadian rugby player https://t.co/cVAsxTUywW
— YSC #WRugby (@yscrugby) February 3, 2017
We try to keep the politics to a minimum but when it starts to affect or put fear in players, it can’t be ignored. How many other players are concerned about coming to the USA for Vegas 7s?
Jada’s joy, though, has been tempered since last Friday, when United States President Donald Trump issued an executive order suspending all refugee admissions for 120 days, and barring citizens of Sudan, Iran, Iraq, Somalia, Syria, Yemen and Libya from entering the U.S. for 90 days.
Jada’s grandmother and cousins currently live in Sudan.
“We talk about it. Our family is still there,” she says. “I know that it’s a hard journey and that my mom struggled a lot and I know they’re struggling too.”
The Canadian rugby team has a tournament next month in Las Vegas, and though she holds a Canadian passport, Jada is uneasy about travelling to the U.S.
“I’m from Sudan. I was born there. It says it on my passport,” she says.
“It makes me not want to go through customs.”
A spokesperson for the Canadian Olympic Committee said it shouldn’t be a problem, writing in an email to CBC Sports that “in order to compete for Team Canada, athletes must be Canadian passport holders and Canadian passport holders are not subject to the U.S. travel ban.”
Still, Jada finds the situation unsettling for herself and her fellow immigrants.
“We come here to create a better life for ourselves,” she says. “I’m beyond grateful for the opportunities that have come my way. I want the best for Canada, for our country.
Murphy’s last-gasp score lifts Ireland Women over Scotland #RBS6Nations #wrugby https://t.co/EiXkI1y1wO
— YSC #WRugby (@yscrugby) February 3, 2017
An amazing opening to the Women’s 2017 Six with Ireland barely escaping Scotland. The entire match was hotly contested and Scotland led well into the second half.
Scotland was let down late in the second as Lindsey Smith saw yellow for repeated infringements. Ireland responded immediately as Lindsey Peat barged over from a driving maul to level up matters.
Nora Stapleton struggled with kicking all day and again could not add the extras. The final quarter of the match was a story of missed opportunities.
Replacement Scotland scrum-half Jenny Maxwell was inspired as both Lisa Thomson and Chloe Rollie made fine breaks but all their invention came to nothing as both Law and Nelson missed presentable kicks to the break the deadlock.
And in the end that cost them as Jenny Murphy of Ireland, in the second minute of time added on after the 80, bashed over under the posts to break their hearts.
Best performance we’ve seen from SCO ever. Well done @Scotlandteam . #RBS6Nations #wrugby #W6N

Music doesn’t bother us but those cheerleaders, leave ’em at home! https://t.co/QwBOkncEwg
— YSC #WRugby (@yscrugby) February 4, 2017
We have never been a big fan of cheerleaders at rugby, we’d rather see mini rugby players or other entertainment. Music doesn’t really bother us but it’s quite obvious when a stadium has a limited song selection. When you’re there for 12+ hours at a 7s tournament, you notice the repeats…
