Life West captured the 2017 USA Rugby Women’s DI Championship

Life West rattled the division 2 competition last year when they swept through the competition and then unseated Wisconsin 66-20 for their first National Championship. This year wasn’t that different as they coasted to a bye in the Round of 16, then dispatched the Austin Valkyries 71-5 and then defeated the Utah Vipers 73-12.

All that stood in their way of a championship was the Raleigh Venom who had a much tougher route to the final.

The Venom also had a bye in the Round of 16 and in the quarter-finals they beat Beantown 41-10. In the semi-finals the had their toughest match, squeaking by NOVA 18-10.

Congratulations to Life West on defeating the Raleigh Venom 39-17 and on their back to back championships in DII and DI. Is the WPL next?

In a much tighter affair, the division two final pitted Milwaukee Scylla against the San Francisco Golden Gate Fog. Scylla came out on top 16-15 with only three points being scored in the second half. Milwaukee’s Abigail Williams had a big impact on the final as she scored all of their points. Rightly so, she was named MVP.

While the Fog were edged by one point there is much to be proud of! The Fog are a new team, created in 2013 with just a 7s focus. What a turnaround of a few years to be in their first Championship match.

Both teams had a long road to the final, Scylla beat the County Will Morgans 24-20 (RD of 32), Buffalo 20-14 (RD of 16), Harrisburg 23-10 (QFs) and Providence 41-17 (SFs). The Fog played the Amazons first, score unkown (RD of 32), defeated the Emerald City Mudhens 24-10 (RD of 16), HARC 62-14 (QFs) and Old Pueblo Lightning 30-10 (SFs).
