2017 WPL Week 5 – Results & Videos

In Week 5 the leaders in both conferences are becoming more concrete. Glendale holds a six point lead over Berkeley in the Blue conference and New York is on top over the Amazons by five points in the Red conference.

Berkeley hosted the San Diego Surfers this week and were coming off of a tough road loss. They stormed out of the gate from the whistle and scored twenty nine points in the first half. The Surfers came out of the break feisty as well but could only muster fifteen points. Final score Berkeley 34 Surfers 15. Berkeley faces a big challenge this week as they face off against the aforementioned leaders of the Blue conference, Glendale.

Glendale hosted ORSU under the stadium lights and the score line was broken after seventeen tense minutes. Glendale scored first off of a brilliant move by winger Justine Wypych, she converted her own try. ORSU slotted a penalty shortly after and Glendale answered with a try to make it 15-3. After the break both teams received yellow cards for cynical play and once Glendale got back to full strength they ran in three unanswered tries. Final score Glendale 32 ORSU 17.

New York held on to their top spot in the standings as they defeated the Furies 68-0 in front a large hometown crowd. Scoring was aplenty with tries spread around to Misha Green (2), Emily Magee (2), Tahlia Brody, Juliette Conte, Jacqueline Johnson, Kerry Conlin, Alycia Washington and Shamira Robles. Conversions were by Shelby Lin and Tahlia Brody.

The Amazons had their first road trip of the season as they traveled to Beantown this week. The Amazons led for seventy minutes but couldn’t stop Beantown from scoring opportunities. The final nail in the coffin was the go ahead try by Jess Davis of Beantown. This put the score line at 10 points and the Amazons couldn’t close the gap to gain the win or a bonus point for being within seven points. Final score Beantown 27 Amazons 17.
