A really big week of  women’s rugby news, the highlights include the Tyrrells Premier playoffs, Olympic Qualifier Tournaments for 2020 Olympics, results from the World Rugby Sevens Series Qualifier in Hong Kong, USA Rugby D1 Elite College rugby playoffs and a new Rugby World Cup 2021 Qualification Pathway. Plus we always sprinkle in other news, read on!

  • Six regional Tokyo Olympic Qualifiers have been announced:
    • South America: 1-2 June, 2019 – Lima, Peru
    • Europea: 13-14 July, 2019 – Kazan, Russia
    • Oceania: 7-9 November, 2019 – Suva, Fiji
    • Asia: 9-10 November, 2019 – Guangzhou, China
    • Africa: To be confirmed, but will be played in 2019
    • Japan – Hosts
  • Brazil secures place on HSBC World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series 2020
  • World Rugby confirmed a new qualification pathway for Women’s Rugby World Cup 2021:
    • Women’s Rugby World Cup to host a Repechage tournament for the first time in its history
    • Process offers more unions qualification opportunities including an exciting new European and expanded Oceania competition
    • The top seven placed teams from WRWC 2017 have already secured automatic qualification
    • Continues as a 12-team competition and will hosted by New Zealand
  • Taylor Harris plays in the Australian Football League and has had to weather recent repulsive comments around a photo of her
  • USA’s NSCRO has set their 7s Championships dates, Founders Field, Cheswick, PA on April 27-28, 2019
  • The Tyrrells Premier 15s play-off semi-finals will put Saracens vs Wasps and Harlequins vs Loughborough Lightning on April 13 and 14
  • USA Rugby D1 Elite National Championship is a repeat of last year with Lindenwood and Life facing off
