Chicago North Shore has secured a new 7s coach and is gearing up for a competitive summer season!

Chicago North Shore has been on the hunt for a 7s coach and they have landed a former
WNT coach, John Coumbe-Lilley. John and North Shore share a vision of development and growing the women’s game in hopes that Chicago can be a home to motivated players looking to be competitive and be seen.

John comes to North Shore with a high level of coaching experience including the 2014 IRB Women’s World Cup, 2011 and 2013 Nations Cup, 2009 U20’s Nations Cup, 2009 IRB Sevens World Cup, 2003 IRB U19’s World Championship and 1995 Student Rugby League World Cup. Due to his national team efforts in Canadian and USA programs, he coached the most players selected to play in the 2014 IRB Women’s World Cup than any other coach who participated in that event.

He is currently the National College Athletic Association (NCAA) faculty athletic representative for the University of Illinois Chicago, overseeing the sport, academic and social experience of all student athletes. His experiences have allowed him to see rugby from a variety of perspectives. North Shore is very excited to have him on board and to bring his experiences and vision to life with the 7s team this summer. Ever since joining the WPL, North Shore has focused on 15s and is now ready to re-ignite it’s tradition of producing international 7s caliber athletes like North Shore alums Lauren Doyle, Pam Kosanke, Jenny Lui, Christiane Pheil, Tanya Carlson and Cristina Mastrangelo. North Shore will be live streaming the Summer 7s kick-off meeting on Thursday, May 16 at 7:00 pm, via Facebook live for anyone outside of the Chicagoland area to get a glimpse of what is going on this summer. All players near and far who are looking for an awesome summer playing competitive 7s, tune in and join us!
