This week spanned the Women’s Soccer World Cup semi-finals and Finals. Who’s your final pick? We’re going with USA. This week we’re also covering updated World Rugby Rankings, the first round of the Super Series including some criticism, Marcoussis 7s, Ran 7s, World University Games and the first-ever Armed Forces Championship in the USA.

  • World Rugby has updated their rankings and Singapore has fallen five places after losing to India in the Asia Rugby Women’s Championship Division I.
    • India’s initial defeat to the lower ranked Philippines means they only end the week with an overall gain of just under a third of a rating point and so remain in 47th place.
    • China’s triumphant return to test rugby after an eight-year absence boosted their rating by 0.86 of a point but that was not enough for them to catch Belgium, the side immediately above them in the rankings, and they remain in 24th place.
    • Beaten finalists, the Philippines, move off the bottom of the rankings thanks to the win against India at the expense of Czechia.
  • England and New Zealand get the first wins in the Super Series
    • Also host to World Rugby Women’s High Performance Academy
    • The event has come under some scrutiny due to the facilities and lack of room for fans 
  • France takes Marcoussis Sevens title and moves closer to qualifying for Toyko 2020
  • RAN Sevens previews their tournament, this leads to next year’s Olympic Games global repechage for two teams
  • Also taking place is the World University Games in Naples with eight teams
  • South Africa U20 have made it two wins as they defat Zimbabwe 67-10
  • The first-ever Armed Forces Championship for women’s rugby was played at Cape Fear 7s. It was made up of teams from  U.S. Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps and Navy
  • USA Rugby Club 7s National Championships will be in Kansas City on August 10-11
  • USA Rugby announces their Pan American Games team
  • USA Rugby introduces unified rugby, an adaptive version of the game that can be played by players with and without disabilities
  • Rugby’s astronaut is back on earth, welcome back Anne McClain!

  • Mahalia Murphy has played Rugby League, Rugby 7s and now 15s for Australia
