This week we’re featuring Hamilton 7s as the HSBC Sevens Series has it’s first stop of 2020. The Black Ferns were host and at the end of two days of competition they were also the Champions. They defeated Canada 24-7 for their first gold ever on home soil.
The Super Session continues to be a hurdle as those teams that typically go 2-1 in pool play now find themselves falling directly into the 5th/6th and lower matches.
It’s a quick turnaround as teams now travel to Sydney 7s in Australia for the second stop of this round.

Papua New Guinea has announced their training squad ahead of the 2020 Women’s Rugby World Qualifying match against Tonga. You may remember that Tonga was removed from the Oceania Championship due to health concerns around the measles. World Rugby announced that they would still have a chance to qualify for the 2021 Women’s Rugby World Cup.
The winner of the qualifying match will face Samoa to decide who qualifies for the Rugby World Cup repechage. The date and venue hasn’t been confirmed yet but PNG is in camp and will make final selections soon.

Both semi-finals of the Energia Women’s All-Ireland Cup served up some classic knockout rugby with UL Bohemian and Old Belvedere the last teams left standing in the 2020 competition.

The World Rugby Museum at Twickenham Stadium has launched a new exhibition focused on ‘Rugby and the Olympics’.
The unique exhibition showcases the leading role that Rugby Union has played in the birth of the modern Olympic movement. From Pierre de Coubertin’s formative experiences at Rugby School, the introduction to wheelchair rugby in the Paralympic games and Fiji’s first Olympic gold medal. It spans the history of rugby at the Olympics in both the XVs, Sevens, men’s and women’s game. The exhibition also looks ahead to the upcoming XXXII Olympiad in Tokyo.
