In 7s, South Africa toppled all the teams at their local Hermanus 7s tournament and Great Britain announced their Olympics training squad.

Misc news includes MLR’s Old Glory will award a “With Her” award to an individual or group that demonstrates outstanding leadership and made significant contributions to the advancement of girls’ and women’s rugby in the Washington Metropolitan and Capital Rugby Union area. The National Intercollegiate Rugby Association (NIRA) has announced Guilford College as the league’s 20th member. NIRA was founded in 2018 and is comprised largely of private schools in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. 

The league features three groups aligned according to NCAA divisional membership. Guilford becomes the seventh member of NIRA’s Division III and first from the South region. The Quakers join Colby-Sawyer College, Bowdoin College, Norwich University, the University of New England, and New England College in NIRA’s Division III.

Six Nations

COVID-19 continues to disrupt the Six Nations tournament as they’ve announced that all matches planned in Italy on March 6 & 8 will not proceed. They do state that all other matches are going forward at this time, but only time will tell…

The Energia’s All-Ireland League contested Round 11 and U.L. Bohemian sits on top of the table, followed by Railway and Old Belvedere trails in third.

We’ve got another update on USA Club Rugby, this week in Frontier Red River, Austin snuck by Houston 19-12. 

In the Pacific South Tempe bested Belmont Shore 46-7, and Las Vegas beat Pasadena 57-5 in DII.

Moving on to Pacific North, Berkeley II ran up a 56-7 score against SFGG, and the Sacramento vs Life West game ended in a forfeit win to Sacramento. 

Red River was busy this weekend in DII with three matches, it started with a close San Antonio win over Bay Area 13-3. Dallas took on Little Rock in another tight affair, with Dallas taking the eventual win 17-12. Lastly, Austin blasted DARC 51-22.

South also had a heavy weekend in DII with Southern Pines beat Columbia 32-5. Camp Lejeune also recorded a win defeating Charleston 36-5. Orlando recorded a heavy win over Indian River dealing out 50 points to 14.

The Rugby Breakdown has released their 5th DI College Ranking. BYU still remains on top followed by Virginia Tech and UCF.

South Africa participated in the Hermanus 7s tournament this past weekend and danced their way to the final. As they aren’t playing on the HSBC Sevens Series regularly they’ve had to work find local competition to keep preparing for the 2020 Olympics. 

They defeated the Busy Bees 38-0 in the final. 

Scott Forrest has announced the Great Britain 2020 Olympic training squad. They had their first training camp this past weekend in Edinburgh and have two more planned in Wales and England in April.

Old Glory DC has announced an award for an individual or group who has demonstrated outstanding leadership and made significant contributions to the advancement of girls’ and women’s rugby in the Washington Metropolitan and Capital Rugby Union area, through achievements in the sport, on the field, and/or at the workplace.

The Old Glory DC “With Her” Award recipient represents the values of Old Glory DC – hardiness, valor, perseverance, and vigilance.  This inaugural award will be presented to a woman or group in the community every March in the upcoming years, based on a nomination process.

International Women’s Day 2020 is just around the corner (March 8) and Ghana rugby is  jumping on the theme #EachforEqual. They’d like Ghana ladies and any from around the world to participate.
