Featured Women’s Rugby News

Outsports held their annual Outsports Awards and while most of the accolades are considered to be positive and uplifting, the ‘Asshole of the Year’ isn’t that. The asshole of 2020 is World Rugby and we think it’s quite fitting. Rugby is about being inclusive and our governing body has chosen to exclude transgender female athletes.

Outsports has named World Rugby as the ‘Asshole of the Year’ for banning transgender women athletes for rugby. But first a bit about the Oustports Awards:

The annual Outsports Awards are for the most part representative of our positive, uplifting perspective of LGBTQ sports and the people who play them, coach them and support them. It’s how we honor our heroes, stars, role models and other inspiring people from across the community.

All but one award reinforces the message that we have spread for 21 years: Courage Is Contagious.

But just like in life, there’s always that one asshole determined to ruin a good thing. That’s what our Asshole of the Year Award is made to do: To call out those who stand in the way of progress, equality, individuality and love.

It’s worth mentioning that the runner-up for the award was to The Alliance Defending Freedom who the Southern Poverty Law Center labels as an extremist hate group. Really great company huh?
