We are excited to announce the creation of Maddawg Women’s Rugby Football Club. The determinacy and dedication in our players to seeing the creation, growth and legitimacy in this team has been truly commendable. Our goal is to provide a space for college women to practice athleticism, teamwork, and personal development with the support of other like-minded women.
Our co-captains are Cassie Vanoostrom and Lydia Hallman.
Cassie is sophomore from Huntsville, AL pursuing her bachelor’s degree in Criminology. She has been involved with Archery Club, the Bodybuilding Club and previously was a peer mentor in the ACCESS program. When Cassie is not busy with school, work, or captaining the rugby team, she enjoys working out, spending time with her friends, and attending local concerts and music events.
Lydia is a sophomore is from Raleigh, MS pursuing her bachelor’s degree in Psychology. She is involved in CORE, Promise Program, and is a team manager for the men’s rugby team. When Lydia is not busy with school or captaining the team, she can be found cooking new recipes for her friends or watching documentaries.
Although we are official members of the NCR, we continue to have an uphill battle concerning our legitimacy at home. Our goal for this season is to build a concrete foundation for our team and to improve our skills overall. Currently we are looking for a full-time coach, who has experience with rugby. We also want to play friendlies with other southeastern teams. In the future we hope to continue to create a safe place for women to play rugby and grow our camaraderie.
