The third edition of the World Rugby Sevens Challenger Series 2023 is set to take place at Markotter Stadium in Stellenbosch, South Africa. The event comprises of combined men’s and women’s tournaments that will occur on April 20-22 and 28-30.
Similar to the Olympic Games format, the 12 men’s and women’s teams will be divided into three pools of four. The top two from each pool, along with the two best third-placed finishers, will advance to the knockout rounds, with the quarter-finals and semi-finals leading to the bronze and gold medal matches.
In the women’s tournament, the 12 teams have been divided into three pools, with Poland, Columbia, Hong Kong China, and Paraguay in Pool D. Hosts South Africa will compete against Madagascar, Mexico, and Czechia in Pool E, while Pool F features China, Belgium, Papua New Guinea, and Thailand.
The winner of the women’s competition will receive an automatic entry to the HSBC World Rugby Sevens World Series 2024.
