When It All Begins: The 2025 WER Season Schedule

The first-ever WER match will take place Saturday, March 22, with the New York Exiles hosting the Boston Banshees at Memorial Field in Mount Vernon, NY, kicking off at 4:00 PM ET.

WER’s regular season runs from March 22 to June 14, with matches scheduled Friday through Sunday each week.

The Players Taking the Field: 2025 Rosters

Along with the schedule release, WER has officially confirmed rosters for all six teams. The league’s 180 athletes come from elite college programs, top club teams, the Women’s Premier League (WPL), and international competition.

Each team has named a Foundational Five (F5)—players who will serve as leaders on and off the field. These athletes bring experience from the USA Eagles, international squads, and professional leagues as they help shape the identity of their teams.

Since WER has not provided details on players’ previous clubs and international experience, we’ve done the work to track it down and are sharing it below. Our research covers everything from college and club affiliations to international caps—but if we got something wrong, let us know! We’re happy to update and make sure these players get the recognition they deserve.

League Format and Structure

The 2025 WER season features six teams, each playing 10 regular season matches with five at home and five away, plus three bye weeks built into the calendar. The league uses a points system designed to reward both performance and competitive spirit:

Points System

  • 4 points for a win
  • 0 points for a loss
  • +1 bonus point for scoring four or more tries
  • +1 bonus point for losing by seven or fewer
  • +1 bonus point for a Golden Point loss within four points

Standings Tie-Breakers

If teams are tied in the standings, the following criteria will be used:

  • Head-to-head win-loss record
  • Most bonus points earned
  • Most away wins
  • Coin toss

For matches that end in a draw, WER has a clear overtime process. After a five-minute break, teams enter a 10-minute Golden Point period where the first team to score wins. If no one scores, the match is decided by a kicking competition, rotating through players on the field from three designated spots, continuing until one team comes out on top.

Get Ready for WER 2025

As the first full-season, professional women’s rugby league in the U.S., WER is setting the stage for something special. The venues are set, the schedule is locked in, and the rosters are stacked and now, it’s time to play.

March 22 is just around the corner—who will make history in WER’s first season?

Squads

The 2025 WER rosters bring together a diverse mix of talent, blending professional, club, university, and international experience. Many players have honed their skills in the Women’s Premier League (WPL), top club competitions, and collegiate programs, while others are making the jump from Premiership Women’s Rugby (PWR) in England back to the U.S.. The league also welcomes crossover athletes from rugby league and other sports, further expanding the level of competition.

A total of 104 WPL veterans anchor the league, alongside 40 club players and 18 university standouts, showing a strong pipeline from all levels of the game. 13 players return from PWR, where they’ve been competing at the highest level overseas.

On the international stage, 28 USA Eagles bring Test match experience, joined by athletes who have represented Canada, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Mexico, Fiji, Nigeria, and Samoa. The league also includes seven USA Rugby League players, highlighting the crossover potential between rugby codes.

With a blend of elite experience, raw talent, and international pedigree, WER’s inaugural rosters are set to deliver high-quality, fast-paced rugby when the season kicks off in March.

Past Results

The Women’s Premier League (WPL) was founded in 2009 as a semi-professional league and ran until 2024. While WER is stepping onto the scene for the first time, it’s building on the foundation the WPL laid—elevating the game and creating new opportunities for women’s rugby in the U.S.
