The 2025 Guinness Women’s Six Nations is set to kick off on March 22, marking another milestone year for the tournament as England aims for their seventh consecutive title, while Wales looks to avoid another Wooden Spoon finish after placing last in 2024.
The excitement for this year’s Championship was evident at the official launch, where players and head coaches from England, France, Ireland, Italy, Scotland, and Wales arrived by boat on the Thames, stopping at Tower Bridge before heading to Tobacco Dock—a venue that once fueled global trade and now symbolizes the rapid growth of women’s rugby.
A Championship on the Rise
With a 9% increase in annual TV audiences, a 45% rise in match day attendance, and a growing digital fanbase, the Women’s Six Nations continues to elevate the sport’s profile. Six Nations Rugby CEO Tom Harrison emphasized the momentum:
“The Championship is the biggest annual event in women’s rugby, and this year the stage is set for the stars of the game to shine and inspire. More fans are tuning in, engagement is growing across social and digital channels, and stadiums are expected to be packed once again.”
New Innovations & High Expectations
This year’s Championship will be the first women’s competition to implement World Rugby’s Global Law Trials, including:
- Referees ‘On Mic’ – allowing match officials to explain decisions in real time to fans in stadiums and on broadcasts.
- 20-minute Red Card Variation – deliberate foul play results in a full red card, while technical offenses can see a player return after 20 minutes.
Key Dates & Fixtures
The tournament opens with Ireland hosting France in Belfast on March 22, setting the tone for a highly competitive season. It all builds up to Super Saturday on April 26, where all three final-round matches will be played on the same day.
With the 2025 Rugby World Cup on the horizon, this year’s Women’s Six Nations is more than just a battle for the title—it’s a proving ground for the best in the game.
