First Responder Female 7s Team Forming for the 2025 Police and Fire World Games – Players Needed

A select women’s 7s team is coming together for one of the most unique tournaments in the world — the 2025 Police and Fire World Games this July in Birmingham, Alabama.

This isn’t your typical rugby tournament. The World Games are an Olympic-style event just for first responders — police, fire, EMS, corrections, customs, and dispatchers — with competitors traveling from all over the world to compete across more than 60 sports. Rugby 7s is one of the highlights, and this year, a U.S. women’s team is recruiting a few more players to complete their roster.

Details

  • Tournament Dates: July 2–5, 2025
  • Venue: Heardmont Park, Birmingham, AL
  • Registration Deadline: May 1, 2025
  • Interested players: Contact 845-521-1503

The games include a mandatory captain’s meeting the day before kickoff, and the rugby competition will feature a round-robin group stage followed by a single-elimination tournament. The goal is to maximize game time, with formats adjusted depending on team numbers.

Eligibility

To compete, players must be an active or retired member of a qualifying first responder agency, including: • Law Enforcement Officers, Firefighters, EMTs/Paramedics (2+ years service) • Corrections Officers, Customs Officials, 9-1-1 Dispatchers, Lifeguards, and more • Retirees with 10+ years of service are eligible
(Full eligibility details are managed by the California Police Athletic Federation.)

Proof of service is required, and players must be in good standing. Full eligibility info can be found here.

Why This Tournament is Special

The World Police and Fire Games are the third-largest multi-sport event in the world by athlete participation — only the Summer Olympics and Commonwealth Games are bigger. It’s an incredible celebration of service, camaraderie, and international competition.

Players will not only get to represent their departments and communities, but also connect with first responders from across the globe. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience both on and off the field.
