Rugby Americas North (RAN) has confirmed the schedule for the 2025 Women’s XVs Inter-Regional series, featuring three international test matches between Mexico, Jamaica, and Trinidad & Tobago. Set across May and June, this series continues RAN’s commitment to increasing senior-level women’s competition across the region.
With Canada (RAN1) and the USA (RAN2) focused on final preparations for the 2025 Rugby World Cup, these matches will determine the next tier of regional rankings. The outcomes will help identify RAN3 and RAN4, opening the door for potential cross-regional tests later in the year. Rankings will also influence which teams may qualify for future World Rugby competitions.
This year, Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago will host the matches, while Mexico will travel for both of their fixtures. All three unions have prioritized more assembly time and competitive opportunities, helping strengthen the women’s game in the region.
Last year, Mexico made history by breaking into the World Rugby rankings with back-to-back wins over Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago on home soil. These were their first-ever international test match victories and marked a turning point in their program. With USA South not participating in 2025, the Inter-Regional series is wide open.
A Look Back at Regional History
Senior women’s rugby in the Caribbean has a long but fragmented history. The first Caribbean women’s championships began in the early 2000s, with Trinidad & Tobago, Jamaica, and Guyana among the initial participants. From 2003 to 2011, the tournament evolved from the NAWIRA Women’s Championship to NACRA and eventually to RAN.
In more recent years, different formats like 10s and 12s have been used, but the return to full XVs competition has revived interest and added meaningful ranking opportunities. Mexico’s recent success has shifted the landscape, encouraging greater investment in high-performance planning and expanded pathways for players.
