2025 WER Legacy Cup: Schedule, How to Watch, and Results

The stage is set. After 13 rounds of elite-level competition, the inaugural Women’s Elite Rugby (WER) season will conclude with the 2025 Legacy Cup Final on Sunday, June 29 at TCO Stadium in Eagan, MN.

Denver Onyx enter the final as the top seed. They finished the regular season with nine wins, one loss, ten bonus points, and a league-best 46 points. Their attack, depth, and defense were unmatched across most matchups.

Only one team figured out how to beat them.

New York Exiles delivered Denver’s only loss of the season in Round 11, a 24 to 17 upset that shook the standings. That win gave New York just enough to edge out the Bay Breakers and Boston Banshees, clinching the second and final spot in the championship match. The Exiles closed the season with 33 points and nine bonus points.

How They Got Here

Denver Onyx

  • Record: 9–1
  • Bonus Points: 10
  • Total Points: 46
  • Notable Wins: 76–7 over Chicago, 63–7 over Bay, 62–7 over New York
  • Only Loss: 24–17 to New York

Denver’s dominance has roots in one of the most successful rugby legacies in U.S. history. Many of their players came from the Colorado Gray Wolves, who won the last two Women’s Premier League (WPL) championships in 2023 and 2024. That team followed a proud tradition from Glendale, Colorado, previously known as the Glendale Raptors and then the Glendale Merlins. Combined, Glendale and Colorado teams have appeared in eight WPL finals and lifted the trophy four times.

New York Exiles

  • Record: 6–4
  • Bonus Points: 9
  • Total Points: 33
  • Notable Wins: 24–20 over Boston, 34–28 over TC Gemini, 24–17 over Denver
  • Losses: Two to Bay, one each to Denver and Boston

New York’s season was about momentum and resilience. After a slow start, the Exiles surged late, winning five of their last six matches. Their roster includes many players from New York Rugby Club, a three-time WPL champion. The Exiles know what it takes to win a final.

History Meets the Future

This final is not just a clash of the two top teams in WER. It is a meeting of two of the most successful clubs in the history of women’s rugby in the U.S.

WPL Championships by Club

  • Glendale/Colorado (Raptors, Merlins, Gray Wolves) – 2014, 2015, 2019, 2023, 2024
  • New York Rugby Club – 2009, 2010, 2017
  • Berkeley All Blues – 2011, 2012, 2022
  • San Diego Surfers – 2016, 2018
  • Twin Cities Amazons – 2013

WER is picking up where the WPL left off and pushing it forward. These teams are no strangers to championship rugby, but the Legacy Cup brings a new layer: the first fully professional title in U.S. women’s rugby history.
