The summer sevens season is officially kicking into high gear, and the blueprint for the 2026 USA Club 7s National Championship has arrived. This year, the destination is Madison, Wisconsin again, where the Madison United Rugby and Wisconsin Rugby Sports Complex will host the biggest weekend in domestic sevens on August 8 and 9.

With the Chicago Lions (Women) and NOVA (Men) looking to defend their 2025 titles, the competition to secure a spot in the brackets will be fierce. If your squad wants a piece of the action, the grind starts now.

The Qualification Blueprint

The USA Club Rugby 7s Committee has laid out a clear, dual-track competitive pathway for teams looking to stamp their tickets to Wisconsin. The national championship tournament structure relies on a mix of automatic dominance and resume building:

• Regional Winners: Eight bids will be automatically awarded to the champions of the recognized geographic regions, including the Pacific Northwest, Pacific South, Rocky Mountain/Frontier, Texas/Red River, Midwest, Mid-Atlantic, Northeast, and South.
• At-Large Bids: An additional eight at-large bids are up for grabs. The selection committee will determine these wildcards by evaluating strength of schedule, competitive score lines, historical performance, and a team’s explicit intent to compete.

Note: Total bracket numbers are subject to review based on overall team interest and the quality of competition.

Crucial Deadlines and Admin

Before any team can step onto the pitch with championship dreams, they have to handle the paperwork.

The absolute most critical date on the calendar right now is July 1st. This is the hard deadline for teams to submit the official 2026 Club Declaration Form. Filing this form formally notifies the 7s Selection Committee that your club is actively competing for a national tournament bid and meets all USA Club Rugby Eligibility Regulations. Miss the deadline, and your season is over before it truly begins.

What to Expect in Madison

For the fans and clubs making the trek to Cottage Grove, Wisconsin, the National Championship promises a world-class weekend of rugby. The tournament will be packed with fast-paced, high-stakes 7-on-7 action.

If you are planning to attend in person, remember that tickets will be available right at the gate. The facility has a few strict ground rules to keep in mind: outside alcohol, glass containers, smoking, and pets (excluding guide animals) are all strictly prohibited.

If you cannot make it to Wisconsin to catch the action live from the stands, you will not have to miss a single minute of the tournament. Fans can expect full coverage of Nationals to be streamed live online. Next Level Rugby is expected to be on the call broadcasting the matches, with the entire weekend available to watch on the official USA Club Rugby YouTube page.

The stage is officially set, the rules are locked in, and the July 1st deadline is ticking down. It is time to see who has what it takes to conquer the road to Madison.
