High Desert Classic New Mexico

2006 High Desert Classic

I love this tournament so I wanted to do a little spotlight on it…

This was my first tournament in my rugby career. I will never forget it. We didn’t score one single point and we didn’t win a game. We were mainly a team of rookies with 4 or 5 veterans that actually knew what was going on. We drove all day and late into the night to get to New Mexico. A few of the our girls had never left Oklahoma and were excited to see a few new states on the way.

The picture on the right over there is one of the sights that you will pass on the way to New Mexico…the biggest cross in Texas…or so they claim. We joked about stopping the cars and forming a scrum or a ruck against the base…this thing is HUGE! You can see it for miles on the road before you realize what it is.

This picture on the left is of the 72 oz. steak found in Amarillo, TX. This restaurant has billboards as far as 150 miles away advertising their FREE 72 oz steak. That is if you can eat it ALL (including a baked potato, vegetables and bread)…otherwise you foot the bill and the tummy ache. No one I know has ever attempted to eat the steak, but we did enjoy the gift shop where they sell cowboy trinkets and you can shoot some fun BB guns too!

So here’s to anyone that has ever played at this tournament and here’s to everyone that hasn’t…you totally should! This picture is of the Oklahoma Roses…we played our asses off and didn’t win a single game that first year. But we sure as hell WON the party! We got a really cool trophy too! Miss you gals.
