  1. As a spectator who watched the Glendale vs Austin game…and watched the bias of the referee and touch judge, I was once again appalled by Glendale’s actions. The game was 65 minutes in and it was grid-iron with a score of Glendale 8 and Austin 3.

Two tries were incorrectly taken back from Austin, one where a player stepped out of bounds (hmm she was at least 3 meters from the line…) and another where Glendale popped up so Austin could not drive over and score. Penalty try anyone?

After that the wind was gone from Austin’s sails as they knew they were playing against the ref and the touch judge for Glendale as well. The game was already decided and it was just a matter of time before their spirit broke.

Pity that this game was NOT in Austin as planned and the Glendale fans were ATROCIOUS and the Glendale players were vicious and backstabbing the whole game. I watched girls get raked, punched, stepped on and maliciously late hit…all while the referee said “it was so subtle I must have missed it.”

The wrong team is going to Nationals…

  2. that last comment was clearly not anonymous! Sad when players of the losing team have to make excuses for their inability to perform on the pitch!

  3. Clearly I post all comments to my blog, including those that are hurtful and spiteful…

These are all anonymous comments, but do keep in mind that IP addresses can be checked easily. The commentor your referring to is from the Boulder/Denver area according to their IP address.

Thanks for reading and commenting all…negative or positive.

  4. what game were you watching? Glendale players..vicious? If the Austin players would get their bodies off the ground instead of killing the ball and laying on it, maybe they wouldn’t have gotten raked. Austin wanted neutral ground, they got it. The ref sucked for both teams and was obviously newer. Quit making excuses…just try for next year. NOT the end of the world.

The Boulder/Austin game was 6-5. Great job Boulder!

  5. It really is unfortunate that Glendale gets the only West seed to Nationals after they lost the second seed in a challenge match.

Glendale is a dysfunctional team starting with the head coach.Stop dating your players and find someone your own age.

Glendale has never won their first game at Nationals to move on since 1997, so I’m sure this time will be no different. Not to mention it’s not on their home field with their own referees and with girlfriends running touch. The refs at Nationals don’t care who you are.

I will be there watching Glendale embarrass the West once again. Then Glendale will get challenged next year, and the West will no longer have any seeds for Nationals.

    Way to go Glendale!!

  6. Glendale is going to have an incredibly hard first match against the NorthEast #2… and it is not a disappointment to lose to a team like that and definitely not an embarrassment.

Also the game wasn’t even at their home field against Austin (it was in Colorado though), and did anyone mention Glendale played Kansas City before they played Austin on Sat?

And on the coaches thing, let that personal stuff go, it’s really not that uncommon, coaches date players and players date players.

Glendale won, could the ref have sucked? maybe, probably even.. but from what I’ve seen from both teams record-wise this season… Glendale is the best to represent the West at Sweet 16s, and someone mentioned 2 tries being called back, well even if both tries were counted and converted the score would have been 35-22, but hey there may be other excuses for why that wouldn’t have represented the game either.

  7. Please give me a break. This blog is so messed up. As a woman, I am appalled by the comments everyone is making..For or against whichever team. Now someone will write, “then quit reading”..yeah, that’s my fault. I should have never started. It’s sad to see that teams can’t be happy for one another, fans are haters and outsiders have no F-ing clue about what goes on in other teams. Alas, this blog probably started out to be a positive view of women’s rugby but has turned into a hatefest for teams to bash each other. Thanks for giving women’s rugby players another bad name…it’s petty and unfortunate and I’m done reading this page. You have ruined it for numerous people.

  8. After traveling from West Texas to Houston to get my kids and then back to Austin so my teenaged daughter could watch the Glendale AT Ausin game, I was dissappointed to here that Glendale had cancelled because of the really gorgeous sunny weather we were suffering in Texas. Don’t kid yourselves folks, home field advantage is huge; especially when one team has to travel as far as this game required. I am confidant that the change of venue benefited the Glendale team. The West officials did a grave injustice to the Austin Valkyries with this whole fiasco, and deserve to be roasted for it. Bad official!! NO BEER!! NOOOOO BEER!!

  9. Everything leading up to the Austin-Glendale match has been such a whirlwind, and the game itself was tough for both sides. I commend both teams for dealing with all of the different obstacles. It’s healthy that we were fired up leading up to and during the game, but let’s not let this rivalry divide us completely. We are two of the strongest clubs in the West, and later on, we will need step up together as teammates against other territories and represent the West.

  10. I am a Valkyrie (and a proud Valkyrie, just like all the other women on my team, so i am sure if one of them commented on this they would have mentioned this)
As for the person who said Glendale wouldn’t have been vicious (and personally I do call throwing elbows intentional kicking and raking vicious, no matter the circumstances) had Austin not “killing the ball” (I really don’t know what you’re talking about when you say we did that…), even if we were doing what you accused us of, that DOES NOT give Glendale the right to resort to things like that.

The fans were absolutely appalling, heckling the kicker and being generally horrible. Period.

Had that game been at 0 altitude and 100 degrees I am sure the score line would have been different.

(Props to Wendy, she has the ability to delete any comment she wants, and she’s allowing the comments which attack her personally and her team)

  11. So Boulder beat Austin, 6-5. Way to go Babes! Proof that in the sport of rugby, any team can win on any given day. Very impressive considering the Babes currently have no TU Select Side players on their team.
