Rugby Video Monday: Why Rugby? You’ll Live Longer

Received this video via Facebook from Nursedude:

This Nike commercial aired just one time, on NBC during the 2000 Olympics opening ceremonies. The NBC switchboards got lit up by irate viewers who were upset by this commercial. I thought it was just brilliant. Have a look and see what you think.

  1. Yo! Scrumhalf, thanks for the shout-out. I am glad you liked it so much that you thought it worthy to share with your loyal reader base.

The other Nike add that I thought was great regarding women and sport was the “If you let me play campaign”. Good stuff for any parent who has a daughter.

  2. Nike has quite the horrible reputation for women’s sport marketing. I actually hate the “If you let me play” campaign. The problem is the “IF YOU LET ME”, women always need to ask permission to play. We need to put our sport participation in the context of something bigger (ie. stats Nike presents). Boys never have to ask permission, never have to put playing sport in context. Don’t ask permission, Nike should just have said “just do it”.

  3. Maybe a nice commercial showing boys playing in different sports, when….BAM….a girl comes from nowhere to not only make the play, but Take the game for herself……what if.
